  • Bottoming Taps are for hand and machine operation and commonly used in smaller shops or DIY that prefer “one tap fits all” approach. It is a High Speed Steel (HSS) industrial quality straight flute tap made for Alpha
  • Features / Benefits: The straight flute is the standard style of tap and is available in 3 types: Taper, Intermediate and Bottom, all 3 are suitable for a range of different tapping applications. As this basic tap will give acceptable performance in most materials and for medium sized production runs, it is usually the most economical tap to use. It can be especially beneficial when cutting short chipping material such as cast iron. A straight flute tap can be used in through or blind holes. Tap is made to 2N tolerances for optimum thread fit that balances fastener performance, manufacturing, economy and convenience
  • Ideal for: Steel, Aluminium, Copper, Brass, Not recommended for Stainless Steel
  • Also known as: 1st Tap
  • What is the difference between Taps?:
    • Taper: 8 - 10 leads of thread used for starting a thread
    • Intermediate: Less tapered, 4 - 5 leads, used to follow a Taper tap or for restoring threads
    • Bottoming: Very little taper 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 leads, so will cut a new thread to the bottom of a blind hole, but the lack of taper makes starting a new thrad difficult
  • Manufactured in: EU
  • Cutting Fluid: When drilling into ferrous metals we recommend the use of a cutting fluid or compound to aid in the efficiency of the tap and to prolong its working life. We recommend Alpha CDT cutting fluid (Code ATL005)
  • Thread Pitch (Metric): Pitch means the distance between the peaks of two threads along a screw, bolt, or fastener expressed in millimetres (mm). Used when referring to Metric parts. For example, a thread pitch of 1.50mm means that the distance between one thread and the next is 1.50mm
  • Thread Pitch (Imperial):TPI stands for “threads per inch” which literally means the number of threads within each inch on a screw, a bolt, or a fastener. To determine the TPI of a screw, you simply count the number of threads contained within an inch of length. If the screw is less than an inch count upto ½” and x by 2
