  • Decking Screws are made from high quality stainless steel. Specially manufactured and designed to be used for screwing down merbau, jarrah and other timber decking into either soft or hardwood joists. The head style TRIM (small / reduced head) is visually less obtrusive than the STANDARD head we also sell. The square drive provides optimum drive bit connection as well as high torque, needed when going into some hardwoods. The IMPAX power bits we include i your order are from the Hobson Engineering range of IMPAX power bits, designed to be used with today's modern high power impact drills and drill drivers
  • Material / Coating: Stainless Steel A2-70 G304 is the most popular grade of decking screw. It is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and very practical because of its excellent corrosion protection in most environments. It is highly recommended to use Stainless steel A4-70 G316 if the product will be used within beside a sea salt pool or 300 metres of the coast. Most products can be identified by the following markings: A2, A2-70, 304 or G304. Stainless steels are largely non-magnetic but it is common for stainless steel fasteners to show a small degree of magnetism which is a result of work-hardening during the manufacturing process
  • Can Stainless corrode?: Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant but not corrosion-proof and corrosion can occur if the material is installed or handled incorrectly. The use of tools and drills made from conventional steel during the installation of stainless steel fasteners may also lead to problems. Even the hardest of tools can produce debris that leaves minute steel particles on the stainless steel fastener surfaces or in pre-drilled holes. It is these particles that often rust when exposed to moisture or oxygen and can result in a stained or tarnished finish to the stainless steel material
  • What does TPI stand for?: TPI stands for “threads per inch” which literally means the number of threads within each inch on a screw, a bolt, or a fastener. To determine the TPI of a screw, count the number of threads contained within an inch of length on the fastener. If the screw is less than an inch count ½” of an inch and multiply by 2
  • How to measure the length of a Decking Screw: Fastener length is generally measured from the point where the surface of the material will be when the fastener is installed to the end of the fastener. Thus, fasteners with heads that sit above the surface are measured from under the head to the end of the fastener, while fasteners that sit flush with the surface (decking screws) are measured from the top of the head to the end of the fastener
  • Thread Length: have been included as a guide only. Due to stock being sourced from multiple suppliers variations do exist. We will always ship the same brand and thread length but subsequent orders may be another brand and the thread length may be different. If thread length is critical, please message us prior to ordering as we are happy to physically check our stock and advise prior to shipping
  • Type 17 point (T17): is a sharp pointed design with a cut out flute to help capture and remove the waste allowing a self drilling type function similar to a drill bit. This self drilling action prevents wood fibres separating which leads to splitting and so these screws are very useful for close to edge work, they also benefit from fast insertion and self centering starts and so are ideal for use with powerdrivers
  • Need a Driver Bit?: A large range of suitable driver bits are available in the "Driving" section of our website
