  • Countersunk Head Self Drilling Screws has an aggressive self embedding head which means this screw can be quickly applied without the need to pre-drill or countersink, saving time during application. The two protruding wings create clearance through the timber and break off during entry into the steel.
  • Installation: Easy to install using a SQ2 impact rated square driver bit in a impact power tool, a large range of bits are available in the drilling driving tools section of our website.
  • Material / Coating: A Bi-Metallic screw, as the name suggests, is a screw comprised of two metal types. The point is manufactured from high grade carbon steel that is heat treated to give it the ability to self-drill, the same as any other standard metal SDS on the Australian market. The head section is however manufactured from A4-70 Stainless Steel G316 corrosion resistant stainless steel). The two metals are "fused togther" to form a screw that offers excellent self-drilling properties, combined with exceptional corrosion properties. The screws are then coated in a zinc protective layer that makes them visually difficult to distinguis from a zinc plated standard SDS
  • Why do we need them?: Roofing & cladding applications: Areas of extreme corrosion where either aluminium or stainless steel roof sheeting is used requires a special screw that exhibits superb corrosion resistance as well as the ability to self-drill
  • Can Stainless corrode?: Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant but not corrosion-proof and corrosion can occur if the material is installed or handled incorrectly. The use of tools and drills made from conventional steel during the installation of stainless steel fasteners may also lead to problems. Even the hardest of tools can produce debris that leaves minute steel particles on the stainless steel fastener surfaces or in pre-drilled holes. It is these particles that often rust when exposed to moisture or oxygen and can result in a stained or tarnished finish to the stainless steel material
  • What does TPI stand for?: TPI stands for “threads per inch” which literally means the number of threads within each inch on a screw, a bolt, or a fastener. To determine the TPI of a screw, count the number of threads contained within an inch of length on the fastener. If the screw is less than an inch count ½” of an inch and multiply by 2
  • Length of Thread: Always choose a self driller with enough threads to fully engage in the base metal. For attachments to 1/4" base steel, a self-drilling screw should have at least 1/4" of threads. It is helpful, but not critical, that the threads also engage in the material being fastened. The head of the fastener provides the bearing force for the material being fastened, while the threads provide the clamping force in the base material
  • To determine Thread Length: Before buying countersunk screws, it is recommended to work out the overall length you need. Because the overall length includes head height and drill point length you have to add the 2 together then minus that from the overall length to get the approx thread length. For example: a 10g-16 x 35mm countersunk self drilling screw has a 4mm head height and a drill point of approx. 12.50mm. This equals 16.50mm approx, so, on a 35mm long screw you are going to be left with approx. 18.50mm of thread. This detail is often overlooked and it is only when the screws turn up you find they are too short and your project is delayed. All this data along with other specifications is on the specifications table and as always, measurements are approx and do vary between batches and suppliers, if critical always check with us prior
  • Drill Point Style: A twist drill style hardened point for fast driving into light gauge sheeting, cladding panels, sections and assemblies. The length of the drilling flutes determine the amount of drilling swaft that can be expelled and therefore the depth of metal can be drilled
  • How to measure the length of a Metal Screw: Fastener length is generally measured from the point where the surface of the material will be when the fastener is installed to the end of the fastener. Thus, fasteners with heads that sit above the surface are measured from under the head to the end of the fastener, while fasteners that sit flush with the surface are measured from the top of the head to the end of the fastener
  • Need a Driver Bit?: A large range of suitable driver bits are available in the "Driving" section of our website
  • Measurements: Every effort has been made to ensure all measurements on our site are accurate and to the relevant standard, they should only be used as a guide. If you see a problem with our specifications please contact us
  • Dimensions: Our stock is sourced from various suppliers, therefore differences may exist between batches such as height, width, visible stamped markings, appearance or actual finish
