- ACME Nuts are used in clamps, vises and linear actuators. They are used in industrial applications that require heavy torque and power transmission such as lathes, milling machines and presses. The lead screw is fitted to a nut, and the linear motion may be generated by turning either the nut or the lead screw
- Features / Benefits:
- Thickness and width help them perform better in environments with dirt and debris
- Stood the test of time in large part because of their outstanding reliability. It is not uncommon to find machinery that is decades old and still operating with the original ACME fasteners
- They have a low number of threads per inch compared to an equivalent sized UNC nut.
- Material / Coating: Black or plain finish is unfinished (bare steel) has no actual protective coating. There may be an oil residue which provides some shelf life but no real corrosion protection when in use. The term “black” is an old industry term for plain. Depending on the material grade and heat treatment process the colour can vary from a shiny oily finish to a dull black
