- Adjustable Toggle Latches are a mechanical piece of hardware which in locked position ensure secure fastening of two surfaces, panels or objects and when unlocked allow separation. The main components are the base plate with lever and attached loop and separate part the catch plate. The tension is created once loop is hooked onto the catch plate and lever clamped down. Tension is released when the handle is pullet up to vertical position
- Benefits / Features: Latch length can be adjusted by rotating the threaded screw. This way locking force can be adjusted as well. The patch has eye where a padlock can be attached to increase security and avoid unauthorized openings. A sealing pin instead of padlock could be used to avoid unintentional openings. The triangle screw eye loop is the most popular style.
- How toggle latches work: Toggle latch operating principle is calibrated system of levers and pivots. Toggle action has an over center lock point. Once it reaches over center position latch is securely locked in place. It cannot be moved or unlocked unless certain amount of force is used to pull the handle and get over the cam. Unlocking process is simple due to the leverage provided by the handle. Amount of power needed to unlock can be changed by adjusting screw loop length
- Material / Coating: Stainless Steel A2-70 G304 is the most popular grade of stainless steel. It is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and very practical because of its excellent corrosion protection in most environments. It is highly recommended to use Stainless Steel A4-70 G316 if the product is being used within 300 metres of the coast, in the food and chemical industry or within salt spray affected areas. Most products can be identified by the following markings: A2, A2-70, 304 or G304. Stainless steels are largely non-magnetic but it is not uncommon for stainless steel fasteners to show a small degree of magnetism. This is partly due to the work-hardening of the product during the manufacturing process
- Can Stainless corrode?: Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant but not corrosion-proof and corrosion can occur if the material is installed or handled incorrectly. The use of tools and drills made from conventional steel during the installation of stainless steel fasteners may also lead to problems. Even the hardest of tools can produce debris that leaves minute steel particles on the stainless steel fastener surfaces or in pre-drilled holes. It is these particles that often rust when exposed to moisture or oxygen and can result in a stained or tarnished finish to the stainless steel material
