- Cup Head Coach Carriage Bolts are used to attach wood to wood or steel with a matching nut to clamp the materials together. The coach bolt has a low profile domed head and a square section under the head which resists turning when the nut is tightened or removed. The square section pulls into the wood as the nut on the other end is tightened, thus eliminating the need for a second spanner. Used to support structure, in timber framing, outdoor furniture, fencing and retaining walls, a common example is the seat and back slats of your garden bench and table furniture
- Material / Coating: Stainless Steel A2-70 G304 is the most popular grade of stainless steel. It is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and very practical because of its excellent corrosion protection in most environments. Most products can be identified by the following markings: A2, A2-70, 304 or G304. Stainless steels are largely non-magnetic but it is common for stainless steel fasteners to show a small degree of magnetism which is a result of work-hardening during the manufacturing process. Some of our stock have a smooth finish with no head markings if required, Test Certificates or Certificate of Conformity can be requested
- Grade v Class Difference: Metric fastenings are referred to as classes and imperial as grade. Both generally have head markings to determine grade and class. The markings on a stainless fastener indicate the grade of material and strength, e.g. material G304 grade will have one of the following markings: A2-70, G304, A2, 304 and G316 grade stainless will have one of the following: A4-70, G316, A4, 316. Some sizes do not have head markings, we have no control of this as it depends on the stock available at the time
- Thread Pitch (Imperial): TPI stands for “threads per inch” which literally means the number of threads within each inch on a screw, a bolt, or a fastener. To determine the TPI of a screw, you simply count the number of threads contained within an inch of length. If the screw is less than an inch count upto ½” and x by 2
- Fastener Length: Is generally measured from the point where the surface of the material will be when the fastener is installed to the end of the fastener. Thus, fasteners with heads that sit above the surface are measured from under the head to the end of the fastener, while fasteners that sit flush with the surface are measured from the top of the head to the end of the fastener
