  • Spring Washers are used as a means of creating tension during tightening in order to help keep the nut from working loose later. They are a low cost option. Also known as a lock washer or split lock washer
  • Understanding and measuring washer sizing: Washer sizes can be a little confusing so we will do our best to try to make it a little easier to understand. When searching for a washer, firstly, let's say you have a M6 bolt and you want a matching washer, look for washers with M6 at the beginning of the description (you can speed this up by using our "shop by" filters). If you already have a washer and you are trying to match it, measure the inside, then look for a size slightly smaller that your measurement. For example the inside measurement of the washer you measured is approx 6.50mm, you need to look for a M6 washer. If the washer measured 17.25mm internally then you need a M16 Washer. Remember washers are not precision fasteners and variations in sizing do exist and all measurements on our site should only be used as a guide
  • Are Metric & Imperial Washers Interchangeable?: In most cases they are which is why we have added metric sizing to the imperial range and imperial sizing to the metric range. If you are still unsure or if the washer dimensions are critical click on the washer you are interested in and view the technical specifications table before ordering
  • Material / Coating: Zinc Plated is the most common fastener of plating due to its the low cost and shinny bright silver finish. A thin layer of zinc is applied by either electroplating or mechanically. It is intended to be used internally as it only offers an average level of protection against corrosion. Whilst some people use it externally it isnt recommended if corrosion is a concern. If you want a fastener that will withstand the outdoor elements choose from our either our Stainless steel or galvanised range
  • Measurements: Every effort has been made to ensure all measurements on our site are accurate and where possible to the relevant standard, however they should only be used as a guide. If you have an exact requirement or you see a problem with our specifications please contact us directly
